Your Questions About F Downloads

Laura asks…What does it mean on Mac's when a file downloads as an Alias?I am soo frustrated I brought a mac today (usually a PC user)....And I am trying to put bittorrent and lime wire on it (and yes i downloaded the mac versions) But they won't F***king install they keep coming up as alias not applications.
